    POEA tips on how to spot fraudulent overseas job offers

    Filipinos looking for work abroad should think twice before responding to job offers posted in newspapers and on the Internet if such ads lack vital data.

    The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration also advised prospective OFWs to disregard ads with instructions for an interview in a hotel or private house.

    Assistance Offered to holders of e-Passports with detached covers

    People whose e-Passports have detached covers may have them replaced at any of the Department of Foreign Affairs' (DFA) offices, the department said in a statement Tuesday.

    According to the statement, e-Passports with serial numbers EB0000001 to EB1267350 with detached covers may present their passports at the Office of Consular Affairs or DFA-Aseana, or the nearest Satellite or Regional Consular Office.

    Canada, Nova Scotia offer employment, permanent settlement under new program

    Canada and its maritime province Nova Scotia are set to roll out new immigration programs that will provide job opportunities and permanent settlement for qualified applicants.

    In a statement Friday, Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said Canada will implement in January a recruitment model for economic migration called “Express Entry (formerly Experssion of Interest),” which she said will transform Canada's immigration system “into one that is fast, flexible, and focused on meeting its economic and labor needs.”

    Beware of e-mail scam promising Jobs in Canada

    Filipinos seeking overseas employment have been warned of a new e-mail scam supposedly offering jobs in Canada.

    Receivers of the e-mail are promised a job as a nurse and caregiver in Canadian Virtual Hospice in Winnipeg, Canada, according to the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) in a Facebook post.

    25 occupations in demand in Canada as of March 2014

    It was only a few months ago that the Saskatchewan International Skilled Worker Category was announced and listed 200 occupations in demand in Canada that did not require a job offer to qualify.

    Unfortunately, that program was restricted to only 250 applicants and it is now closed.

    Green, Maroon PHL Passports phased out by 2015

    Filipinos still holding green- and maroon-colored passports should renew them within the year as the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is set to phase out these Philippine passports in 2015, a report on GMA News TV's "News To Go" said on Friday. 
    Only e-Passports (dark maroon with a logo of the International Civil Aviation Organization or ICAO below the word “PASAPORTE” on the front cover) will be recognized by October 31, 2015, the report said.
